What’s covered on our course
To qualify as an ADI you’ll need to pass a 3 part examination process.
Part One : Theory & hazard perception test
We’ll provide you with all the latest relevant materials & support. Candidates can get full access to the multiple choice questions and hazards videos online to practise in their own time at home. You can have as many attempts at this to pass as required. Once passed, you’ll have a 2 year period to pass the part 2 & part 3 tests.
Part Two : Driving Ability Test
This driving ability test last for approximately 60 minutes. It has an eyesight test, car safety questions and driving ability part.
Candidates have 3 attempts to pass the part 2 test. After this, if you are unsuccessful you’ll need to wait 2 years after the date in which you passed the part 1 test to start the whole process over again.
The main driving ability part requires drivers to drive to an advanced standard which is higher than the average motorist. You’ll need to demonstrate to an examiner that you have a good driving technique, application of the highway code and road safety.
To pass, you should make no more than 6 driving faults whilst not committing any fault considered serious or dangerous.
Part Three : Test of instructional ability
The part 3 test is a test of your ability of instruction. This is the final part and if successful you’ll qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor (A.D.I.). Like the part 2, candidates have 3 attempts to pass this test.
This third part last for around 60 minutes. An examiner will role play 2 of the following :
- A pupil who is at the beginner stage.
- A pupils near to driving test standard.
- A qualified driver looking to improve their driving.
Potential ADI’s should match their instruction accordingly to the level and abilities of the role played pupil. You can ask relevant questions, use training aid and refer to any lesson notes.
Any faults that do occur should be :
- Identified : What the faults is.
- Analysed : Why the fault happened, or what the fault could lead to.
- Remedied : How to avoid the fault happening again.
At the end of this part, you’ll be given the result of the test. If you are successful you can apply for your ADI green badge.
